A pardon

Less stuff, more happiness TEDtalk by Graham Hill

After my accidental Buy Nothing New Month error, I tweeted about it and got this response from the @Buy_Nothing_New twitter account:

u'll be pleased to know tixs to circus oz is not a fail. Buying a brand new outfit to see circus oz however wld be epic fail

I'm taking that as an official pardon!  Yay!  And no, I will definitely not buy a new outfit to see Circus Oz!

(By the way, you can follow me on twitter @stitchybritt if you so desire)

Since then, all I've bought is food, drinks and a train ticket.  That's it.  I've actually been quite busy, so I haven't really even looked at any other kind of shop.  Only a few minutes ago I bid on a second hand jacket (for work) on eBay and won.

In the meantime, check out the blogs of these other awesome peeps who are also participating in Buy Nothing New Month:

Katiecrackernuts
Thrify Household (even though Buy Nothing New Month is promoted as an Australian thing, that didn't stop this UK lass from joining in)
Isis Made
The Byron Life

Are you doing Buy Nothing New Month and I missed you?  Comment and let me know, I'd love to read all about it!

  1. Glad to hear that you've had an 'official' pardon (I'd have done the same as you & bought the ticket- v thrifty I'd say!) Feeling a bit worried at the moment as my sewing machine appears to be 'unwell'- there is no way I can classify a repair bill as 'food' or 'travel'... maybe I should have a sewing machine free month?

  2. TH - I think it's totally ok to have your sewing machine repaired - I'm doing the same at the moment - repairing things rather than throwing them out is definitely in Buy Nothing New Month spirit! (not that you would throw out a sewing machine, but you catch my drift) : )

Is it just clothing then? I buy nothing new clothingwise for 99 per cent of the year... (that 1% is ghastly hosiery for freeeeeeeezing Melbs)... but I might do a post about you guys as well... xoxoxoxoxoxoxo

  5. Hi V -it's not just about clothes, it's about any items that could end up as landfill - clothes, books, electronic goods, homewares etc. You could be the poster child for this sort of campaign!

  7. HS&J - Not at all, although Buy Nothing New Month is promoted for October, it's really an attitude we should be taking with us all year. Try for a month starting today and let us know how you go!
